St Stephen's Church in Rednal is actively fundraising to repair its hall's leaking roof, which has suffered damage over many years.

This page will be updated with what we are doing in the community to raise the vital funds required to literally keep the roof over our heads. But where does this issue come from?

Flat roofs, unlike pitched ones, have very little slope, which can lead to drainage problems. Here’s why:

  1. Poor Water Runoff: Flat roofs don’t shed water as easily as sloped roofs. Rainwater tends to pool or collect in low spots, especially if the roof isn’t perfectly level.

  2. Blocked Drains: Most flat roofs rely on internal drains, scuppers, or gutters to remove water. If these get blocked by leaves, debris, or ice, water can’t escape properly, leading to standing water.

  3. Increased Risk of Leaks: When water pools, it can slowly seep through tiny cracks or seams in the roofing material. Over time, this can damage the roof membrane and lead to leaks inside the building.

  4. Weight Strain: Ponding water adds extra weight, which can stress the roof’s structure and even cause sagging—making drainage worse.

Leaking Roof Appeal progress

Last month we hosted a mini concert hosted by Mick Perrier, that brought together amazing talent and generous hearts in support of a great cause. The event was a wonderful success, raising funds that will make a significant impact. We are grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to this memorable evening. A huge thank you to Mick and Debbie for putting together a wonderful event.

A place of worship, community, and spiritual growth in the heart of Rednal.
