VE Day – May 8th

You may notice a new section on the site, VE Day, with an accompanying Historical background page. These pages are full of information regarding the upcoming celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe.

The church is throwing itself into these celebrations, an quite rightly so. Its something that i don’t think my generation can ever comprehend, the scale of the celebrations after 6 years of total war. Its definitely something we need to celebrate, and also reflect on the thousands, if not millions of people that didn’t make it to the party across Europe.

St Stephens will be joining events across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in lighting our own beacon

“We will be lighting a Beacon Brazier which is a large metal basket set up on top of a large stand which has been used for previous Beacon lighting events, the most recent being The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June 2012.”

Please take a look at the details of our celebration, and also those of other events happening through the UK and on the BBC. We would love you to join in with our celebration and remembrance.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them”
